Technautic windows are a high class, strongly constructed and attractive product. Proof of this is their extreme popularity in both the Dutch and German markets, two European countries demanding a high standard of engineering, reliability, finish and value for money.

Technical specification

  • Frames/Clamping Rings HE9 Grade Aluminium BS. 1474,
  • Anodising All frames etc. are polished and anodised to Spec. BS 1615 AA25 and to a thickness of 25 microns.
    Finishes Etch (Satin Anodise) and Black - Powder coating and colour to user specification.
  • Glazing
    • Toughened glass: Thicknesses: of 10mm, 8mm or 6mm and double glazing available - Colour: Clear, Grey, Bronze, Obscure, Green - Toughend to Spec. EN 12150, Marine coded ISO 614 available on request - Holes for wipers and/or Clear View Screens, cut to customers specification.
    • Acrylic/Polycarbonate: Both available upon request in colours/thicknesses as specified in glass above.
  • Glazing Compound A two-part mastic, compressed air injected into frames, which forms to a rubber seal when cured.
  • Fittings Throughout either stainless steel, anodised aluminium, brass chrome or glass reinforced nylon.
  • Seals & Tracking All seals are marine grade rubber or neoprene. Tracking is rot proofed. Marine grade high impact polypropolene, nylon or poly-vinyl carbonate.
  • Water tight specification ISO 12216.

Procedure for purchase and installation

Design Decide on shape, type of window, section, clamping rings, glazing and thickness. Our Sales and Drawing Office staff are at your disposal to guide you through the many problems you may encounter at this stage.

Quotation Produce a sketch/drawing giving dimensions, section, type and glazing required.

Templates One template for each unique window on your craft. If one window is a mirror image of another window ie. a handed pair, then only one template is necessary for the pair.

All templates should state: Type of window, Reference, Number required and Any other relevant information: Top, Forward, Sliding Direction etc. Your templates should be of the aperture size, that is the hole into which you require the window to fit. It is advisable that you retain a set of these templates for yourown record.
If possible it is advisable not to cut out your window shapes until you receive your windows from us.

Installation The installation of Technautic windows is usually a simple procedure, provided that time and care is taken to cut the apertures as accurately as possible. It cannot be over stressed how important the correct size aperture is to the final result in both sea worthiness and appearance. Therfore, careful marking out with the set of templates you should have retained in your possession, after checking that the windows do not vary unduly to the templates, is called for. For those customers who have ordered inner clamping rings, the marking out is easy. Tape the clamping rings together, thereby making the overall aperture shape, use this as your template and accuracy is ensured.

A snug fit, with a proprietory non-hardening mastic liberally applied, will give you the optimum result. The windows, which are drilled at 10cm/4" centres, are then screwed into or bolted through the hull. Or, if the clamp system is used, simply screw the inner-ring to the outer frame.

It should be noted that very often a hull is curved and this necessitates a window around a curve. This can be achieved with toughened glass provided the window is fixed, ie. non-opening and that the curve is gradual approx. 6mm/0.25" in 25cm/12". If the curve is greater, then the either purchase two smaller windows or polycarbonate/perplex glazing materials should be used.

Windows can be constructed with either mitred or radius corners but it is more prudent to opt for radius corners. This is because the joints are then situated half way up the vertical members, eliminating the possibility of corner joints opening and consequently leaking.
